Before we get into our topic for the month, I want to share that my heart is with Ukraine during this time and watching the strength of the people there is truly inspiring. This weekend, we moved the clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time. We have been waiting to gain those precious extra hours of daylight and now they are here! We wait a lot in life. We wait for what will happen with Covid. Fortunately, things do seem to be getting better and while I am still wearing a mask due to my high-risk status, I’m seeing a lot of the mandates lifted and a sense of normalcy returning. I even planned an in-person meeting with a client this month and an outdoor lunch with someone in April. I am really looking forward to getting together with people again, because it’s certainly been a long few years at home. We wait for our work to pay off. Last year, I was working on a project with another company and I wasn’t sure how it was going to play out. In fact, I pretty much decided it wasn’t going to work at all. Then, the right client showed up for what we created and all of a sudden, success! Good things DO come to those who wait. And sometimes without doing anything differently, it all works. So, be prepared and never lose hope. A colleague of mine borrowed my bike rack while going on a trip last summer and gave me a beautiful orchid as a thank you. It arrived with beautiful blooms and slowly the blooms fell off. In the past, the plant would slowly wither away. I continued watering it and just recently, the plant was able to rebloom! And no, I didn’t change a thing. So who knows?! The right timing is there for us when we least expect it. We can just embrace it and run with it! We’re even waiting for baseball! The lockout is over, but things are still delayed and lots of changes are being made. What changes are you making in your business? Think about your contracts, your agreements, your services, your staff. Don’t wait until it’s too late or an issue arises. Things I DON’T wait on (and I encourage you to do the same) are hiring for my company when I know growth is coming. It’s hard to get people on the payroll before the money starts coming in, but hiring after you need it takes more time and energy and costs more in the long run. Get your people fully trained and up and running so when the work comes in, they are ready to go. Side note: I am hiring for two staff accountant positions, so if you know anyone, please send them my way. The description of the job is on my LinkedIn page. Another thing not to wait on, TAXES! Yes, it’s already that time of year. It’s March 15th and C Corp/Partnership/S Corp taxes are due today, unless you filed for an extension. Personal taxes are due April 18th. Work with your accountant and remember, if you haven’t filed previous years returns, start the process now. Penalties are harsh, so do what you can, when you can. Don’t wait to update or improve your processes. You don’t have to wait until January or the start of a new quarter. Do it now! Last year we moved to Microsoft Teams, which was a major interruption for us but an absolutely major productivity improvement overall. Everything is so integrated and having one place for files and notes and communication, etc. has been a game changer and certainly part of our growth. On a personal note, I can’t wait to get new slippers! Mine now have a hole in them from all the walking around at home. It’s time to get out and get a new pair. If you’re waiting on something that you need, don’t delay, especially when it comes to your finances. I’m here to chat anytime. We can do a virtual coffee and get you back on track in no time. Slippers optional. HAHA. |
