Keep Olympic-sized passion in your business!

Every 4 years the Winter Olympic games keep the whole world spellbound – from ice dancing to hockey and thrilling feats on the slopes, it’s easy to be inspired by the Amy Andersson Olympia Greecededication of Olympic athletes.  This year in Sochi is no exception.

Even though I’m not a professional athlete, the Olympics have been a big part of my life and a great source of inspiration.

My family and I attended the summer games in Atlanta in 1996 and the winter games in Salt Lake City in 2002. I even journeyed to the site of the very first Olympic games in Olympia, Greece, where it all began in 776 BC.

I’ve climbed the ski jumping venue in Oslo, skied at Lillehammer, and have collected pins from many Olympic events, countries and years. The atmosphere at the Olympics is almost indescribable – to be immersed in the energy of the world’s most exciting athletic competition is simply thrilling!

The incredible passion of the athletes is what makes the Olympics so important to so many people.

It inspires us to do better, go farther and be more in everything we do, including our businesses. After years of watching the games in person and on television, one thing that stands out for me is that even athletes who compete in individual sports have an incredible sense of teamwork – no one gets to gold alone. Coaches, medical staff, physical trainers, equipment managers, agents, fans and not least of all family and friends are all there to support athletes with their expertise, experience and drive. To get to the Olympics – the most prestigious of all competitions – it takes 24/7/365 effort fueled by personal goals, pride and patriotism. The same goes for you and me as entrepreneurs and business managers.

Think about it – successful people like you work toward their business goals every single day.

You have family, friends and colleagues cheering you on and even working alongside you to achieve specific objectives. Having the right team is key to staying focused on your strengths and making your business profitable. Bring in people who complement your strengths by taking care of areas that are weaknesses for you or you just don’t enjoy doing. Ultimately, when you have a strong team on your side to handle the various areas of your business with expertise, you’ll truly have your finger on the pulse of your financial status and operations.

Olympic athletes are constantly receiving reports on their progress.

At any given moment their team is there to report on their strengths, weaknesses and areas for improvement. As long as they stay passionate and have a competent support team, they are likely to continue making progress. In business the formula is the same: passion + expertise = progress.

So continue to breathe life into your passion – the reason you started your business. Do whatever it takes to stay inspired!
