A Simple Reset with Unexpected Impact
This past month, I hosted a garage sale, something that had been sitting on my to-do list for months. What I expected to be a physical clean-out turned into something far more impactful. As boxes emptied and items found new homes, I felt a noticeable shift, not just in my space, but in my mindset.
Clearing out what I no longer needed created room to think more clearly, breathe a little easier, and feel less weighed down by “stuff” both physical and mental.
Letting Go Isn’t Losing — It’s Creating Room
We often hold onto things longer than we should. Not because we need them, but because they’re familiar. The same is true in our work. Tasks, habits, and responsibilities can pile up quietly, taking up valuable mental space.
Letting go doesn’t mean something didn’t have value; it simply means it’s no longer serving where you’re going next.
There’s also something meaningful about giving things a new home. Whether it’s household items or responsibilities at work, passing them along allows them to be useful elsewhere — while freeing you up to focus on what matters most.
Sometimes we don’t realize how much energy we spend managing what no longer fits our lives or goals. The moment we release it, we often gain clarity we didn’t know we were missing.
Where This Shows Up in Business
In business, clutter doesn’t always look like piles; it often shows up as a crowded mind. Too many open loops, too many small tasks, and the pressure to manage everything yourself.
Creating space starts with awareness:
- What’s constantly sitting in the back of your mind?
- What are you holding onto out of habit rather than necessity?
- Do you get a negative feeling when working with a specific client? Maybe time to let them go.
- Do you have an employee who is always asking the same questions or making the same mistakes? Are they in the right role?
- Where are you spending time that could be better spent elsewhere?
Even small shifts can make a big difference.
You Don’t Have to Do It Alone
One of the biggest barriers to clearing space is the belief that we have to handle everything ourselves. In reality, reaching out for support, whether internally or externally, is often the key to moving forward.
Delegating, collaborating, or asking for help isn’t about losing control. It’s about being intentional with your time and energy.
Creating Space for What’s Next
After the garage sale, the house felt lighter, but more importantly, so did I. There was room for new ideas, new projects, and new memories.
The same applies in business. When you clear the excess, you create capacity. And with that capacity comes clarity, focus, and the ability to move forward with purpose.
Sometimes progress isn’t about adding more.
It’s about making space for what’s already waiting to grow.
